An iPad can be used to read a wide variety of books. A number of apps are available to allow users to view their libraries, take notes, highlight or search for specific text, share passages, and zoom in on pictures or tables. Some books available for the iPad include sound so that users can listen to the text instead of reading it. Here are some tips on how to buy books for the iPad.

Steps

1. Choose an app to use. There are numerous available, depending on where you want to buy books. You can download as many different apps as you need in order to cover all of the places you want to buy books since different e-bookstores offer different selections of books.

2. Tap the “App Store” icon on your iPad.

3. Tap the search box in the upper-right corner. Type the name of the app you want to purchase, and tap the “Search” key on the virtual keyboard.

4. Find the app you’re looking for. You may need to tap the “See All” link to do this.

5. Tap the “Install” button. Type in your ID password, then tap the “OK” button. The installation process will begin automatically.

6. Purchase the books you want to read on the app you’ve selected.

  • Buy your books directly on the Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, or kobobooks.com websites if you choose the apps that work with those stores. These apps do not allow in-app purchasing. Once you purchase your books on the website, each of these apps will automatically sync them with the app on your iPad.
  • Launch the iBooks app by tapping the icon. Tap the “Store” button, then browse the books shown, or use the search box in the upper-right corner to search for the book you want. Tap the button that shows the price, tap the “Buy Book” button, and enter your Apple ID password. The book will download automatically.

Tips

  • Turn on the wireless option on your e-reader if you want to be able to sync your account. Doing this will allow your e-reader and your iPad to keep track of what page you’re on in a given book, so you can move from 1 device to the other without losing your place.
  • Check for free or reduced-price books periodically from the bookseller of your choice. Each of the major booksellers offers some free books, including many literary classics and books that are in the public domain. Your local library may also offer lending through 1 of your apps.
