Million Dollar Book Deals – Here’s Another
Warner Brothers has acquired the rights of an upcoming romance novel by Nicholas Sparks, titled ‘The Best of Me’. Nicholas sparks is well known for writing romance novels however this new novel by him is supposed to be soft and emotional unlike other Romance Books written by him. The story of this novel involves small town high school couples from the opposite walks of life who fall in love with each other and then end up going separate paths. However the twist starts when they meet yet again in the same town while attending a funeral and are faced with confronting their past lives as well as the path they would take in the near future.
But aside from writing romance books what is it about sparks which lands him with million dollar deals? Actually this isn’t new, many romance novels are acquired by big movie publishing houses and adapted into movies. Sparks recently sold his book ‘Safe Haven’ to Relativity Media for an estimated $2-$5 Million. The book is now used to develop a script which would be adapted to a new movie and now a second deal with warner bros will result in yet another adaption of this book. However ‘The Best of Me’ is yet to be published to the general public, however many fans of romance books are eagerly awaiting its release.
One thing to note is that unlike Erotic Books, romance novels do end up getting more adaptions and million dollar deals. In case you are considering writing a new romantic book then take this in to accounts and keep it soft, you might end up getting more publicity. There is nothing wrong writing hard core erotic books except for the recent trends which has depicted explicit romance novels as ‘graphical pornography’ which makes them unsuitable to be sold among more “mainstream” books but rather has them relegated to adult book stores.
Sparks has a very high ratio of books adapted to romance movies, which has earned him lot of royalties. Other than the current deals his other books were also adapted to movies such as ‘A Walk to Remember’ and ‘Message in a Bottle’. He also had a title transfer deal of the novel adapted book called ‘The Last Song’ which featured Miley Cyrus. This is still a shocker since many critics rate sparks books as too mediocre and the reactions from fans are in the same lines. However Sparks has mastered the art of sales pitching his romance books, which has landed him many million dollar deals.
