Buick unveiled its new luxury Encore mini-crossover vehicle at the International Auto Show in Detroit on January 9, 2012.

2013 Encore will be available on sale early 2013 and will be built for the U.S. in South Korea, according to sources.

The Encore is based on GM’s global small-crossover platform and uses a 140-horsepower version of the 1.4-liter turbo that powers Chevy’s Cruze and Sonic mated to a six-speed automatic and it will offer all-wheel-drive.

The overall length is 168.5 inches: about 20 inches shorter than Chevy’s Equinox crossover. The 100.6-inch wheelbase is just 3 inches longer than a Minni Cooper.

According to Buick, Encore will bring a new buyer segment to Buick — people who want luxury amenities and a crossover configuration in a smaller package. Buick also says it will seat five and have 48.4 cubic feet of cargo room with the rear seat down, about the same as the BMW X1 or Audi Q3 sold in world markets.

Luxury features will include high-tech infotainment and smartphone integration and a 7-inch HD display.

By any modern standards, this would be a small luxury crossover that will hit the market next year.

Buick is a premium brand of General Motors (GM). Buick models are sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, Taiwan, and Israel, with China being its largest market.
