Mitt Romney – the Winner of Maine Caucuses

Mitt Romney was declared on Saturday the winner of Maine’s Republican Caucuses after three losses in the past week. 

Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, won victory over Representative Ron Paul ofTexas, while Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich did not actively campaign in the contest. 

According to the newspapers, Mitt Romney won 39 percent of the vote, barely beating his rival Ron Paul by about 2 percent. Mr. Paul won 36 percent; Rick Santorum won 18 percent, and Newt Gingrich 6 percent. 

“I thank the voters of Maine for their support…I’m committed to turning aroundAmerica. And I’m heartened to have the support of so many good people in this great state.” Romney said in a statement last Saturday. 

Maine’s caucuses began Feb. 4 and continued through the week. Some Maine communities have yet to hold their caucuses, though party leaders say they don’t plan to count those votes.
