The FBI has refused to release of info regarding the use of the controversial Carrier IQ software, being worried about the interference with law enforcement activities by the software.

The response hardly makes it clear whether they are using the Carrier IQ software for investigative purposes or not.

The request under Federal Freedom of Information law was filed on 1 December by Michael Morisy, the co-founder of the website known as MuckRock. Hence, MuckRock  is aimed at helping people in filing FOIA requests with Federal government. Morisy has asked FBI for any documents, manuals, or other manuscripts that have been related to the FBI’s right to use of the data collected by Carrier IQ.

On the other hand, FBI’s section manager David Hardy has said that FBI is holding its possession firmly. However, Hardy has said that FBI is reluctant to release the relevant documents due to the fact that these documents have potential to compromise the ongoing investigation.
