Napster Launches iPhone App
Napster has launched a new app for the iPhone that is free to download but users must be subscribers in order to activate it.
App Shopper reports that the app is now available in the US and requires a $10 (?6.37) a month Napster plus Mobile Access subscription. Over 10m tracks are available and the app integrates Billboard charts dating back to 1955.
The app also features a new releases tab, recommendations and playlists based on popularity.
As with the existing Spotify, we7, MOG All Access and Rhapsody apps, users can store tracks locally on their handsets for playback when they do not have mobile web of Wi-Fi access.
At the time of writing, the app is only available on the Apple App Store in the US. There are no confirmed plans for an international launch of the app.
Napster first announced it was working on an iPhone app in October 2009 but said at the time that high licensing fees for streaming to mobile were delaying its launch.
