You Don’t Need Flash To Watch YouTube, Minitube Releases Version 1.7
Minitube, the app that lets you download and watch Youtube videos without Flash, has released version 1.7. Tweaks and new features include, clickable usernames in the playlist, so you can start watching the video author’s channel with a click, and an enhanced visual style.
With it’s logo of a vintage television, Minitube is a very distinctive app. A feature that has been often requested now makes it’s appearance, the “Manually start playing” option, which allows you to pick the right video before starting playback and to try other searches without interrupting the current video.
There’s also a “Stop after this video” option that Minitube creator, Flavio Tordini finds useful to use with his kid so he can pretend that the cartoons are over. And there’s now the ability to skip to the previous video. Other minor enhancements include a window “Float on Top” option and the ability to skip to the previous video (with keyboard shortcut).
This latest version also supports passing an YouTube URL or even a search query via command line, which means you can for example, create an Unity lens that opens videos in Minitube (like the one for VLC), browser extensions, etc.
Minitube is available in the repositories of all major distros.
